Coffee tables are an indispensable fixture in the homes of many people. Combinations of materials in the manufacture of antique coffee tables are quite remarkable. Metal coffee tables, with a hint of wood detail, and natural stone tops are very interesting designs. You would be drawn to the mystery of what’s within the old rustic container or simply be enthralled by the history of its survival though the centuries. They are functional pieces of furniture because you can store anything within them from magazines, books, toys and other little ornaments and trinkets that are just scattered around the living room. They can be the convenient temporary trash bin for all the mess in the home if you happen to have an unexpected visitor. Some of the antique trunk tables are made of unpolished wood with exposed hardware that consists of bolts, nuts and hinges. They are carved with simple, utilitarian horizontal and vertical lines but others have a more feminine treatment with curved and floral designs. The rare ones made of leather and wood with exposed nail heads as their decorative touch is very quaint and resemble a traveling suitcase that were fashionable during the 19th century and even until today. There are also designs which have real drawers which make them easier to manage as a storage space since you wouldn’t have to take the lid off in order to get the things inside.

Art Deco Antique Coffee Tables
It is wonderful to own a unique coffee table with a distinct eclectic design that can stand out as an accent piece in your living room. Antique Art Deco coffee tables have an identifiable look that can be compared to no other. Their most distinguishable feature is the glossy finished wood marquetry detail. The clear finish shows the exquisite patterns and the natural shade of the solid wood material. The shapes of the Art Deco coffee tables are as diverse as their styles. They have their unique design of round and rectangular shapes but they also have polygonal ones that challenge the artistry of superb and one-of-a-kind designs.

I came to the conclusion shortly after my wife and I got married that second hand furniture was the way to go.  Now, that the economy has tightened up a bit on everyone, I am even more convinced that buying used furniture can be a great way to save some money.  Many pieces of wooden furniture can be easily spruced up with a small investment of time, and I've spent most of my life using second hand sofas because I've found the savings on them too much to resist.


The great thing about buying second hand furniture, is that you can buy stuff that still looks like new or that with just a little bit of work on your part, you can make it look like new again.  Second hand furniture sales are often filled with great stuff that has hardly been used.  If you are the entrepreneurial type, you can even turn around and resell it at a tidy profit after cleaning it up a bit.  This even applies if you found the items in second hand furniture shops or other retail outlets because they usually won't be taking the time to fix anything up before resale.

Second Hand

I have also sold furniture for myself and others on eBay in the past.  I did try using Craigslist but I quickly became frustrated by the people who said they would show up and then just disappeared.  I know that a lot of people like using that site but I, personally, have given up on it after waiting for at least five or six people to get back to me who never did.


If you are looking for a way to get some decent furniture at low prices, I definitely recommend looking on eBay.  Many people do not realize that you can search by location so that you see only items within a certain distance of your home.  This is a very nice feature because it will allow you to arrange for pickup if that is something you want to do.  The main reason you would want to do this is to save shipping costs.  To find items by location, you simply sign into eBay, type in what you are searching for, and use the little tick boxes on the left hand side of the screen to designate how far away you are willing to travel.  This will allow you to see and possibly buy second hand furniture in your hometown or areas close by.   This same feature makes eBay a good idea if you are selling second hand furniture as well.  You can put a number of photos and even a video of your furniture up for people to see if you are so inclined.
